Use the high speed for hair that is denser or more difficult to cut. The American Crew Wahl Clipper has a 12 foot cord as opposed to the average 8-9 foot cord. The extra length is convenient when working from one side of the head to the other. The blades are interchangeable and come in a variety of lengths.
